Background information about this artwork:

Each panel is covered with sketches of Disney characters Emmanuel Laflamme made when he studied from the book “The Illusion of life”. Emmanuel Laflamme taught himself the basics of cartoon animation between 2002 and 2005 by copying characters from the classics. This piece holds his sketches from 2004, hence the date 2004 & 2012. Each page is dated and includes several notes and comments from my mentor. Testifying of his early learning process and commenting on it, “Survival Of The Fittest” is halfway between the conceptual and the performative. It retraces his first concrete efforts to become an artist. The rat, borrowed from Banksy, represents himself, surviving off his job in cartoon animation. This also represents his transition from designer to visual artist.

This artwork is only available online and will ship directly from Laflamme’s studio in Montreal, Canada. Please allow an extra 28 work days for dispatch. We will do our best to ship it as soon as possible.

This artwork is also shown on Artsy.
